Drones can plant thousands of seed pods per day in steep, rocky terrain that would be impossible for human planters to access. Each pod contains seeds, nutrients, and materials to help the seedlings establish themselves.
"This technology allows us to restore forests at a scale and speed that was previously unimaginable," said a project leader. "We can now reach places that have been deforested for decades."
