A revolutionary eye implant has restored reading ability to people with untreatable age-related macular degeneration. The device was inserted under the retinas of 38 patients, paired with video-recording glasses that transmit visual information to the brain.
Remarkably, 84% of participants were able to read again after receiving the implant. "In the history of artificial vision, this represents a new era," said Dr. Mahi Muqit from London's Moorfields Eye Hospital.
